More than 300 bikes go at the 2008 Great Maine Bike Swap.
May 3, 2008Last weekend’s Great Maine Bike Swap drew a record-breaking crowd of more than 1,400 people looking for bargains, deals, ”starter kits,” trade-up’s and other bike related stuff.
Sunday morning, April 27, the University of Southern Maine’s Sullivan Gym was wall-to-wall bikes – kid’s bikes, hybrids and tandems – all in good, working condition. At the end of the day a whopping 300 (maybe more) bicycles had been sold.
A 15 percent commission on all bike sale proceeds went to benefit the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, a major sponsor of the event. Once again dozens of volunteers and local bike shops helped to make the annual event a big success.
This Sunday, May 4, the Great Maine Bike Swap will do a command performance in Orono. This will be the first time for the eastern Maine version of the event.
